We do not have RULES as such at WSS, we prefer to teach our students VALUES. WE have 10 values that our community collaborated in creating what we feel is important for our students to demonstrate. In 2020, we surveyed the community and staff to form this list. These are the characteristics that we believe should be shown by all learners.
Students are explicitly taught these VALUES – one per week of the term. The Value of the Week becomes the focus in both what students aim to demonstrate each day and the value we acknowledge throughout the week. Every day, students can be recognised by staff for showing one or more of the values. This can happen in the classrooms and in the playgrounds. Students are given a 'Walter' which is placed in a box at the office. Each Friday, we draw out 5 Walters and they come to the office to receive a special treat. These 5 names are known as the 'Famous Five'.
Each morning, our students read the Values Statement in class. Each week, teachers focus on one Value and complete activities to assist students in learnings further about it and how that Value can assist them as a learner.
