Homework expectations
For each
year level we align the time to be spent on homework tasks, based on the Department of Education
and Training P-12 Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Framework.
Homework is most effective when it:
- is clearly
related to class work.
- is appropriate to
particular years of schooling .
- is varied and
differentiated to individual learning needs.
- consolidates,
revises and/or applies students’ classroom learning.
- develops
students’ independence as a learner through extension activities such as
investigating, researching, writing, designing and making.
- assists students
to prepare for upcoming classroom learning, such as collecting relevant
materials and information, completing surveys and audits.
- is monitored by the teacher, given feedback and signed.
Points to note
- Students - who are
not completing their expected homework, will need to complete it in consultation between the teacher, the parents/guardians and the student.
(School
Detentions/Reflections are not used as punishment for unfinished
homework). - Homework is NOT just
given for the sake of it.
- At Walloon homework expectations
will be be clearly communicated to parents and students
regularly (via Home-Diaries, email, notes home).
- We understand that Homework
is used to improve the “quality of our school” and the “learning” our students
receive at our school!
