SAGE Program Walloon State School’s Enrichment program (SAGE) caters for gifted and talented students from Prep to Year 6 and will be designed to enrich and supplement the individualised learning already in place in our school curriculum. Walloon State School supports students able to achieve at a higher level with differentiated tasks within the classroom and enrichment programs. Regular pretesting, unit assessment tasks and a range of standardised tests will identify children's suitability for extension and enrichment. We recognise that gifted and talented students’ abilities differ from their peers to such a degree that differentiated curricula and instructional techniques are needed to nurture growth and development.
The enrichment program aims to expose students to high level thinking skills and activities designed to supplement the regular curriculum to tap divergent, analytical, creative, and evaluative thinking. Students will engage in differentiated open-ended learning activities that address their unique talents, challenge their thinking, cater for a huge range of different learning styles and techniques, and solve complex problems. Small groups and specialised staff ensure students selected in the program have an opportunity to explore and develop their potential beyond the traditional curriculum. The enrichment program is at no additional cost to parents/carers. Some of the enrichment programs include the Brisbane Writers' Festival, Faith LC Cluster Science Challenge Day, ICAS competitions, cluster music camps, district sports and Qld Virtual STEM Academy, just to mention a few. Our school offers music/Arts and Sports enrichment programs for students as well.
