Welcome to Walloon State School
Welcome to Walloon State School, a proud semi-rural school located just 15 minutes west of Ipswich, serving around 300 students from Prep to Year 6.
Established in 1877, Walloon State School blends heritage and heart with contemporary learning. For generations, our school has been a place where strong relationships, high expectations, and community connection shape confident, capable young people. We honour our past while continually evolving to meet the needs of today’s learners.
At Walloon, every child is known, valued, and supported. We work collaboratively as a team, holding a shared belief that every student can improve. Student growth—academically, socially, and emotionally—is at the heart of everything we do.
Learning that matters
We provide high-quality teaching grounded in evidence-based practice and a strong, inclusive curriculum. Our classrooms are places of purpose, engagement, and challenge—where students are encouraged to think deeply, ask questions, and take ownership of their learning.
Just as importantly, we believe children need to be children. Learning at Walloon extends well beyond the classroom.
Outdoor play, risk, and resilience
Set across expansive grounds, our school offers three deliberate breaks from learning each day, recognising the vital role that movement, play, and regulation have in student wellbeing and engagement.
Students enjoy access to a rich outdoor environment including:
Artificial creeks and a sand lagoon
Timber adventure playground and low-ropes course
Scooter track and nature play zones (including stick construction)
We actively encourage risky play and nature play, teaching students to assess and manage risk rather than avoid it. At Walloon, we support learners to move from the comfort zone to the courage zone, building resilience, confidence, and problem-solving skills along the way.
Opportunities beyond the classroom
Walloon State School offers a range of specialist programs designed to support diverse strengths, interests, and pathways, including:
These opportunities complement our core curriculum and reflect our commitment to educating the whole child.
A values-driven community
Our 10 School Values underpin all that we do—guiding behaviour, relationships, and decision-making across the school. We are proud of our strong partnerships with families and the wider community and value the role these connections play in supporting student success.
Our mantra says it all:
We work hard. We play hard.
Walloon State School is a place where learning is purposeful, play is powerful, and every child is supported to thrive.
